It is important to highlight the way in which the value chain of this resource is constructed from transportation to its use on site, the possibilities it offers and the national and international regulations that support its safety and reliability. In order to validate the benefits of natural gas in power generation, a comparative analysis of the main aspects that could impact a mining operation is carried out regarding the technology currently used for diesel generation at mining sites. Finally, other possibilities involving the use of natural gas at mining sites are discussed, which, although not addressed in depth in this paper, are relevant for the reader's familiarity. This study is based on information available from the natural gas sector in Peru, reports from mining activity, technology suppliers and the knowledge of authors about electric power generation operations and the natural gas market in Colombia and Peru.
