This paper verifies the utility of incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to improve results from exploration drilling campaigns. Using geological, geochemical and geophysical information from a real exploration project, 3 consecutive drilling campaigns were simulated using “boosted regression” algorithms. Then, they were compared to the real results of the same drill-holes. Of the 36 drill-holes projected, 81% were successfully predicted. In addition, one of the mineralized bodies could have been identified and drilled a year earlier than it was. If the “bad drills” successfully predicted had not been conducted, up to 29% of the total meters drilled in the 3 campaigns could have been avoided.
