Por: Ing. Juan Francisco Retamozo Belsuzarri, docente de la Universidad Tecnológica del Perú, Sede Arequipa.AbstractThis paper discusses how management and soft skills are of vital importance in the professional performance of mining engineers and modern mining. The objective is to analyze the profile of Mining Engineering career graduates, compare it with the profile required by the mining sector labor market, and the actions proposed to close the gap that currently exists between both profiles. To this end, we used a methodology based on compiling existing information on the subject and practical experiences that, as a mining engineer and personal coach, I have observed in different mining companies and universities where mining engineering is taught. Results obtained from this research have been satisfactory, so that once the problem observed has been analyzed, alternative solutions can be proposed to overcome it.The most important conclusion of this article is that modern mining has a well-defined profile of the mining professional required to achieve its business objectives, where technical knowledge must be complemented with management and soft skills to be successful on both a personal and professional level.
