IMPROVED DESIGN OF ANTI-WEAR PLATES FOR TRANSFER CHUTES IN THE MINING INDUSTRY TO INCREASE THEIR USEFUL LIFE

Abstract

In this study, a prototype for a transfer chute anti-wear plate has been developed with a new fastening system that extends its useful life and reduces the amount of waste generated, as well as the replacement cost. To this end, the through-holes of the current fastening system will be eliminated and alternatives will be proposed for the design of housings for protruding bolt heads, known as dowels, which will allow the plates to be fixed to the supporting structure at the back of the chute, thus avoiding the impact of material that causes system wear.

The system was validated using the Ansys software. The anti-wear plate and new fastening method will be given directly from the casting process, so the innovation not only consists of a new design but also a new type of productive process to manufacture this improved product to be developed in the project. Additionally, the innovation includes torque tests, which yielded favorable results since breakage occurred at loads of 300 N.m; 350 N.m greater than the established minimum.
