DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION AND THE REACH OF ROBOTICS IN THE PERUVIAN MARKET: A KEY TO DIFFERENTIATION AND SURVIVAL IN THE MINING IN

Por: Camilo Rodríguez, Business Development Manager, MIRS.

Introduction

Digital transformation, connectivity, Industry 4.0 or robotics (as a branch of automation), are concepts that are being widely addressed in our field when talking about technology and innovation. The impact on productivity, operational costs reduction, process reliability increasing, and occupational health and safety improvement, generate expectations and doubts when making decisions regarding their incorporation into industrial processes.

The factors linked to the implementation of new technologies have led industries to perform assessments with the aim of exploring in depth the impacts and barriers that exist in the companies themselves. A report prepared by Ernst & Young, a leading audit and consulting firm, presents the top ten business risks faced by the mining and metals industries in dealing with technology transformations.

When considering the thesis: "although the concept of digital mining is not new, there is a gap between the power of digital transformation and the successful implementation of new technologies", one can explain the process of incorporating automation and robotics in mining, and the opportunities in Peru particularly.

The case study is based on the experience of the first mining robots deployed, in order to demonstrate the process of materializing the digital transformation as a real and feasible scenario in this country, in Chile and the USA.
