− PLANNING METHODOLOGY IN TAMBOMAYO MINE - COMPAÑIA DE MINAS BUENAVENTURA.

Abstract

The mine planning process is cyclical, constant, and structured, governed by different legal, technical, and even social standards. This process entails asking ourselves questions, which have their origin in different variables that appear when the most adequate work methodology for the deposit conditions is established. In the case of Tambomayo mine, these have their origin in its location at 4800 m.a.s.l. and its distance from cities that have all services, mainly logistics, necessary for the mine building process.

The process in Tambomayo was complex mainly due to the task of bringing an exploratory stage process to the construction of a productive unit, which allows to obtain economic results and work with high operational standards with focus on safety and good work environment, along with the fact that the company has a traditional operational culture, which caused that the main difficulties of decision-making were to bring operational paradigms down and, this way, be an agent of change for the achievement of goals.

Finally, the main purpose of Tambomayo's mine planning process has been to maintain and create an economically appealing productive unit in a preferential place within the industry's price quartiles, in addition to being a guide or example mine to Compania de Minas Buenaventura, where the implementation of its main operational techniques, as for example, the use of geostatistics for the estimation of resources and reserves, the implementation of a 3D geomechanical model, and the application of a more productive exploitation method such as Bench and Fill, has led to changes in the operating and organizational culture, which, at the same time, has allowed to improve the productive capacity and operational efficiency in other operational units of the parent company.
