To learn more about the organization of the twelfth edition of the International Congress of Prospectors and Explorers - proEXPLO 2021, organized by the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP) from February 6 to 8 next year at the Lima Convention Center, we talked to the president of this traditional event, Eng. Enrique Garay, who announced the first fair for exploration projects. What are the main objectives of proEXPLO 2021?ProEXPLO 2021 aims to present new technological advances applied to the exploration of deposits, detail recent discoveries and discuss on a very professional level what the steps are to turn exploration projects into profitable mines that generate value for the country, for the society as a whole and for shareholders. We also aim to build business relationships between mining companies and suppliers, between small property owners and large companies and, above all, to promote the positive aspects of mining exploration in Peru. What will be the motto on this occasion? The motto of proEXPLO 2021 is: Mineral Resources for a Sustainable Future, with this slogan we want to send the message that future generations will require mineral resources to develop environmentally sustainable technology and that in the future, which begins today, we need to protect and improve our living conditions. How important is this event for the country?ProEXPLO 2021 will present to all attendees and participants in general the economic and developmental importance of mining exploration in the country. We, miners and explorers, are aware that we must work in compliance with the legal system, scrupulously comply with environmental regulations and, most importantly, respect our social environment. In this sense, we must recognize that mining is the most important industrial activity in Peru, representing 60% of the exports and 13% of the national GDP. However, resources are finite, they run out every day, and the only way to replace them is by exploring. In that context, mining exploration is the foundation of the mining industry, just like the research and development unit. Since the new mining law was passed in 1992, this activity has been encouraged and the results are in sight. Today, mining is the driving force of Peruvian economy, and exploration is the key pillar of its growth. If new discoveries are not made, there can be no mining. What progress has been made so far?A technical committee has been set up, which is composed of eight successful and very competent professionals, including: Carlos Urrea, Alberto Arispe, Ángel Mondragón, César Farfán, Sebastián Benavides, Jonás Mota e Silva, Jean Vallance, and David Kelley, all of whom I will have the honor of chairing as president of the event. In addition, we have Silvia Rosas as advisor to the presidency, as past president of proEXPLO 2019. The technical committee has the organizational support of the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers, represented by Miguel Cardozo, Carlos Diez Canseco and Roxana Chung. What will be the main novelties in this edition? In addition to the three technical sessions, the technology fair, the pre- and post-congress courses and the field visits, this year we will organize the first fair for exploration projects. Here, small owners of mining claims can present their projects in a technical and structured way to larger companies and investment funds. Promoters will have the opportunity to present and explain their initiatives to potential investors, which will foster the generation of future business. What structure will this edition have?ProEXPLO 2021 will include three days of technical presentations to address the subjects of: Innovation in Exploration, New Discoveries in Peru and Latin America, and Optimal Transition: Exploration to Mine. Also, as every year, we will have the technology fair, the pre- and post-congress courses and the field visits, in addition to the first fair for exploration projects, which will be held in parallel during the three days of congress. We expect to gather around 60 speakers and we will also offer six keynote speeches. How many attendees are expected in this new edition?ProEXPLO 2019, chaired by PhD. Silvia Rosas, set the bar very high, with more than 900 registered participants at that time. For proEXPLO 2021 we should at least equal or exceed that figure at best. What message would you give to potential attendees?I invite you to participate in proEXPLO 2021 as speakers, as full members at the technology fair or as promoters of exploration projects. This congress will allow you to stay updated with technology and science, learn about the details of new discoveries, review the technological, environmental and social challenges faced in the construction of new mines that will generate value for the development of the country. In addition, you will have the opportunity to expand your contact network and learn about the new challenges for the growth and development of the mining exploration industry in Peru and Latin America.
